The Institute of Rail Transport [IRT] was incorporated in 1964,with its headquarters in New Delhi, It has branches at all nine zonal Railway Headquarters-Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai, Chennai, Guwahati, Gorakhpur, Secunderabad and also Research Design and Standards Organisation at Lucknow, Integral Coach Factory at Chennai, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works at Chittaranjan, Diesel Locomotive Works at Varanasi, Wheel & Axle Plant at Bangalore, Centre for Railway Information Services [CRIS] at New Delhi and Rail Coach Factory at Kapurthala. The IRT is managed by a Governing Council which includes Chairman and Members of the Railway Board, the General Managers of the Zonal Railways Production units and other Senior Railway Personnel.
IRT Offered One Year Diploma Course in TRANSPORT ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT

On Popular demand, the institute have extended the date for receipt of applications for the one year Diploma course in Transport Economics & Management (TEM) through correspondence. A candidate with graduation can take up this course for benefitting his career prospects in any organization related to transport and logistics management.
The duration of the course is one year, from January - February every year.
The Course consists of the following seven modules:
1.Transportation - Issues in Microeconomics
2.Transportation - Issues in Macroeconomics
3.Organisation and Legal Aspects of Transport Modes
4.Financing and Investment Policy in Transport
5.Cost Benefit Analysis
6.Inter Modal Coordination
All the lesson are printed in Hindi & English and sent to the candidates by post.
Eligibility: A Degree/Diploma in any subject from the recognized University/Institute will be sufficient.
